23 Individuals Receive Life Sentences for Involvement in Rukum Killings

Triveni, Rukum Paschim: The Rukum Paschim District Court has issued life sentences to 23 individuals for their participation in the killing of six people in Sotigaun, Chaurjahari Municipality-8, Rukum Paschim. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday evening after hearings that took place since Sunday.

The incident, which occurred on May 23, 2020, resulted in the tragic deaths of Nabaraj BK from Jajarkot district and five others. The victims were identified as Ganesh Budha, Lokendra Sunar, Sanjib KC, and Govinda Shahi from Jajarkot, and Tika Ram Nepali from Chaurjahari Municipality in Rukum Paschim.

District Judge Khadga Bahadur KC, presiding over a single bench, handed down life imprisonment to the 23 individuals implicated in the crime, as reported by Govinda Prasad Koirala, the Information Officer of the District Court.

In addition, Nabaraj's alleged girlfriend and two members of her family were fined Rs 50,000 each and sentenced to two years in jail for their involvement in caste-based discrimination, according to Koirala.

The incident had led to the arrest of 34 individuals after a complaint was filed. Nabaraj BK and his five friends were killed at the house of BK's girlfriend in Sotigaun. The perpetrators were identified as family members of the girl and local villagers who opposed the union between BK and his girlfriend from the Thakuri community. The violent incident resulted in 12 individuals sustaining injuries, and the bodies of the deceased were discovered in the Bheri river.
