Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said the lifelong contributions of centenarian physician and social worker Gauri Shankar Lal Das should be preserved and passed on to future generations.
Addressing the chariot procession and Suvarnapura Honour Ceremony held in Das' recognition, Thapa wished him a long and healthy life, saying his decades of service in healthcare and social welfare would continue to inspire the nation.

Thapa said future generations should create an environment where communities proudly recognize individuals like Gauri Shankar Lal Das, whose dedication to public service has left a lasting impact on society.
He emphasized that everyone has a responsibility to preserve and honour the legacy of Das, who devoted much of his life to improving healthcare and serving communities, particularly in Siraha.
Kathmandu Acting Mayor Praises Historic Contribution
Speaking at the same event, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol described Das' contribution to Nepal's health sector as historic.
She noted that, alongside providing medical services, Das played a key administrative role at Bir Hospital, helping shape the country's public health system.
According to Dangol, Nepal's first long-term national healthcare plan was formulated under Das' leadership, laying the foundation for the expansion of health services seen today.
Contributions Beyond Healthcare
Dangol also highlighted Das' wider contributions to society, noting his involvement in promoting human rights, supporting the Nepal Red Cross, and serving through various social organizations.
She said his dedication to public service across multiple sectors has made him a respected figure whose legacy will continue to benefit future generations.
