Kathmandu: As the deadline for renewing active memberships ahead of the Nepali Congress's 15th General Convention expires at midnight today, party leaders have called on members across the country to unite and actively participate in strengthening the organization.

Party spokesperson Devraj Chalise said the renewal campaign is an important step toward reinforcing democracy and protecting citizens' fundamental rights. He urged members who have not yet completed the process to do so immediately, emphasizing that the party's future depends on an active and engaged membership base.

According to Chalise, the membership update process has become more transparent and technology-driven, helping to build confidence among party workers. He noted that while some members may have missed the renewal process, the party remains committed to ensuring genuine cadres remain connected to the organization.

Addressing concerns about internal party divisions, Chalise said differences over positions and leadership should not overshadow the larger goal of strengthening the party. He stressed that the party remains open to dialogue and consensus-building within the framework of its statute and democratic principles.

Regarding demands for another extension of the deadline, Chalise indicated that any future extension would only be considered in exceptional circumstances, such as technical difficulties or challenges faced by members in remote areas. He maintained that political bargaining should not be the basis for extending the process.

Central member Ajay Babu Shivakoti said that after the renewal deadline expires, the party will begin verifying and finalizing the active membership list. Technical reviews will be conducted to correct duplicate entries and other errors before preparing the final database.

The Nepali Congress is constitutionally and statutorily required to hold its 15th General Convention by Mangsir. With less than six months remaining, party leaders acknowledge that significant organizational preparations are still needed.

According to General Secretary and Membership Management Committee Coordinator Pradeep Poudel, out of 782,209 members eligible for renewal, 457,366 had received their ACID credentials by Wednesday evening. In addition, 124,748 members had already submitted renewal forms.

Poudel urged members not to wait until the final hours, warning that heavy online traffic could create technical difficulties. He said members can complete the process through the party's website or seek assistance from local party officials if needed.

Party leaders believe that completing the membership renewal process successfully will provide a strong foundation for the upcoming General Convention and help the organization prepare for future political challenges, including the upcoming local elections.
