Kathmandu: The House of Representatives is scheduled to meet at 1:00 PM today at Singha Durbar amid escalating political tensions over Prime Minister Balendra Shah's recent remarks regarding the Nepal-India border.
The Prime Minister’s statement in Parliament on Sunday triggered strong reactions from opposition parties, which have accused him of making irresponsible comments on a sensitive national issue. Opposition leaders have demanded that the Prime Minister clarify and apologize for his remarks, warning that they will continue to obstruct parliamentary proceedings until their demand is addressed.
Parliamentary proceedings were disrupted on Monday after opposition lawmakers staged protests inside the House, forcing the meeting to be adjourned without completing its scheduled business. Opposition parties have indicated that they are prepared to intensify their protests during today's session.
Against this backdrop, the Federal Parliament Secretariat has released the tentative agenda for the meeting.
At the start of the session, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal is scheduled to read out a letter received from the President’s Office regarding the certification of a bill.
The agenda also includes a proposal by the government to begin a general discussion on the annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for fiscal year 2083/84. The proposal will be presented along with a statement on behalf of the government.
Following the presentation, lawmakers are expected to begin general deliberations on the national budget and expenditure plan for the upcoming fiscal year.
However, with opposition parties maintaining their demand for an apology from the Prime Minister, uncertainty remains over whether the House will be able to proceed smoothly with its scheduled business.
