Kathmandu: Bhishma Raj Angdembe has been unanimously elected as the leader of the parliamentary party of the Nepali Congress.
The decision followed a proposal made by the party’s Central Working Committee during its meeting on Monday, which was later endorsed by the parliamentary party meeting.
Party President Gagan Kumar Thapa acknowledged that the selection process took longer than expected, leading to some criticism. He explained that while the leader could have been chosen quickly through an election, most lawmakers preferred a unanimous decision.
Thapa remarked that while competition within the party is easy, reaching consensus is often challenging, adding that the delay reflected internal maturity within the party.
Meanwhile, Angdembe emphasized the need for stronger coordination between the party and its parliamentary wing. He noted that such coordination had been lacking in the past and committed to addressing major national challenges through unified discussions and debates between the party and parliament.
He also informed that decisions regarding other office bearers of the parliamentary party will be finalized within the next 24 hours.
