Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has announced that he will fully cooperate with the high-level property investigation commission formed by the government by submitting his property details. He also said that other leaders of the Nepali Congress would support the process in the same manner.

Speaking at a program held at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur, on Thursday, Thapa said the party was committed to assisting every constitutional and legal effort aimed at promoting good governance and curbing corruption. He emphasized that investigations into the assets of public officials and political leaders should be completed as soon as possible.

The commission, formed by the government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Baisakh 2, is headed by former Supreme Court judge Rajendra Kumar Bhandari. The body was established with the stated objective of addressing corruption and ending impunity.

While expressing support for the commission’s objectives, Thapa also raised concerns about its formation process and mandate. He warned that questions could arise in the future regarding the commission’s impartiality and credibility if adequate safeguards are not maintained.

“The government should ensure that the commission’s independence and integrity are beyond question,” Thapa said, adding that insufficient attention had been paid to these concerns during its formation.

The Congress leader clarified that his party would not comment on statements made by some political leaders and former judges who have indicated they would not disclose their property details. However, he stressed that the Nepali Congress would not avoid participation in the process.

Referring to the youth-led movement of last August, Thapa said that the demand for an end to poor governance and the beginning of accountable governance remains one of Nepal’s most important political agendas. He reiterated that both he and other Congress leaders would submit their property details and cooperate with the investigation process.

Thapa stated that transparency and accountability are essential to restoring public trust and ensuring that anti-corruption efforts produce meaningful results.
