Paris: France has deployed mine-clearing naval assets to the Middle East to help restore safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, French President Emmanuel Macron announced.

According to Macron, the deployment includes two minehunters, two frigates, and a maritime patrol aircraft, all of which are prepared to work alongside international partners to ensure the security of one of the world's most strategically important maritime routes.

In a statement posted on social media, Macron said the French forces are ready to contribute to restoring freedom of navigation and protecting commercial shipping through the Strait.

France Welcomes US-Iran Maritime Agreement
Macron also welcomed the June 17 memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step toward regional stability.

"The agreement is an important step forward, particularly because it reaffirms freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz," he said.
Following discussions with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman, Macron said France had adjusted its military deployment to reflect the changing security situation in the region.

UK and France Reaffirm Commitment to Maritime Security
In a joint statement issued on Friday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Macron stressed the importance of safeguarding maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

"The Strait of Hormuz is a vital artery for the global economy. Ensuring safe passage for ships of all nations is a matter of global concern," the two leaders said.

They also confirmed that Oman had agreed to cooperate with both countries to enhance security within its territorial waters.

Multinational Mission Remains an Option

The United Kingdom and France said they are prepared to launch a comprehensive multinational military mission if necessary to protect freedom of navigation in the Strait.

The joint statement reaffirmed both countries' commitment to regional stability, respect for national sovereignty, adherence to international law, and close cooperation with international partners to maintain global maritime security.
