Kathmandu: In response to the recent tragedy during a protest over the eligibility criteria for the Korean language test, the Nepalese government engaged in discussions with South Korean Ambassador to Nepal, Park Tae-Young, concerning the Employment Permit System (EPS). This system allows Nepali nationals to work in Korea as part of a bilateral agreement.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Secretary Kewal Prasad Bhandari conveyed the government's decision and the court's ruling to permit Nepali youth with prior experience in shipbuilding to fill out forms for the productive sector. The Korean Ambassador, Park, expressed a positive response to Nepal's proposal, and both sides aim to resolve various issues in the EPS system through technical discussions.

As of now, approximately 175,000 Nepali citizens are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to work in Korea after successfully passing the Korean language test, according to the Ministry. The Korean government acknowledged the tragic incident in Balkumari that occurred last Friday and, on behalf of the Korean government, paid tribute to the deceased individuals, extending condolences to their families.
