President Paudel Meets Swiss President Viola Emherd in Bern

Kathmandu: President Ram Chandra Paudel, currently in Switzerland, met with Swiss President Viola Amherd in Bern today. President Paudel is attending the 112th International Labor Conference of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) as a keynote speaker at the inaugural session of the Forum of Global Coalition for Social Justice.

Nepal’s Economic Prosperity as a Priority
During their meeting, President Paudel emphasized Nepal's urgent need for economic prosperity to sustain its democracy. Highlighting Nepal's planned graduation from a least developed country by 2026, he stressed the necessity of ensuring this transition is consistent, sustainable, and irreversible. Paudel outlined the need for substantial resources, technology, investment, and financial aid to achieve these development goals.

Acknowledgment of Swiss Support
President Paudel acknowledged the Swiss government's longstanding support for Nepal's economic and social development since the 1950s. He expressed a desire for increased Swiss investment, particularly in agriculture, tourism, and water resources, which are crucial for Nepal's social and economic transformation.

Swiss Commitment to Continued Partnership
Swiss President Amherd affirmed Switzerland's commitment to aiding Nepal in its socio-economic development. She praised Nepal's constitution for its federalism and inclusion principles and highlighted the robust development partnership between the two nations, which has spanned 60 years. President Amherd assured that this partnership would continue to grow and flourish in the future, supporting Nepal in the areas it identifies as priorities.
