Kathmandu: In a ceremony held at the Sheetal Niwas today, Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly-appointed Attorney General Ramesh Badal in the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel. The event was attended by other notable dignitaries, including Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, and National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal.

Attorney General Badal, appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, has committed to ensuring justice for victims through his office. Assuming his duties today, Badal emphasized his dedication to performing within the authority provided by the Constitution and existing laws to guarantee justice for victims.

"The responsibility of this office is to deliver justice to victims, and we will carry out our duties within the constitutional framework. We will prosecute only those who are accused," stated Attorney General Badal. He urged Government Attorneys to meticulously study cases before proceeding, highlighting their role as the "first judges."

He also underscored the dual role of the Office of the Attorney General in both prosecuting and providing legal counsel to the government, as well as defending the government in legal cases. Badal expressed his commitment to fulfilling these constitutional responsibilities and announced plans to hold discussions on establishing criteria for penalties and compensation to ensure uniformity in prosecutions.

This is not the first time Badal has served as Attorney General, having held the position for a brief period previously.
