Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show cause notice to Gopal Krishna Ghimire, President of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA), requiring him to submit a written response to a contempt of court petition filed against him.
The division bench of Justices Kumar Regmi and Dr. Kumar Chudal, after a preliminary hearing, ordered Ghimire to respond either in person or through a representative within a week of receiving the notice.
The SC also asked Ghimire to provide evidence if he believes he should not be charged with contempt. The petition was filed following a report submitted by SC Assistant Registrar Govinda Prasad Ghimire, accusing the NBA President of contempt.
Though the Assistant Registrar had earlier stated his intention to withdraw the report, the SC proceeded with the case following the hearing.
