Kathmandu: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed an appeal at Nepal's Supreme Court, contesting a decision by the Special Court to acquit individuals accused of bribery.
The Special Court had acquitted Gajendra Singh Bhandari, the in-charge of the Khadaiya Police Station in Banke, despite his being caught red-handed by the CIAA earlier this year. Dissatisfied with the ruling, the CIAA has sought further legal action, according to its spokesperson, Narahari Ghimire.
The CIAA has also filed a similar appeal regarding the case of Harichandra Bhusal, who was accused alongside others of taking bribe money. While the Special Court found one defendant, Sumankant Thakur, guilty, Bhusal and others were acquitted. The CIAA argued that the reasoning for Bhusal's acquittal was not satisfactory and called for the Supreme Court to review the decision.
Both cases, decided in May, highlight the CIAA's continued efforts to uphold accountability and transparency in public administration. These appeals demonstrate the agency's resolve to pursue legal remedies against corruption.
