Kathmandu: Women working in the entertainment sector are facing increasing violence, warned Maiti Nepal Chairperson Anuradha Koirala at the concluding session of the 'Women Film Festival' in Kathmandu on Thursday.

She expressed grave concern over the exploitation of young girls under 20 years old in pubs, lounges, dance bars, and clubs across the capital.

"These establishments are hiring young girls and subjecting them to violence. Many are also suffering from substance abuse. This issue demands urgent attention," Koirala stated.

Despite repeated discussions with concerned authorities, including the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, no significant action has been taken to curb these issues, she lamented.

Films as a Tool for Awareness and Change
Chairperson of the Film Development Board, Dinesh DC, highlighted the importance of films in mainstreaming women’s voices and creating an empowering atmosphere.

"The Women Film Festival plays a crucial role in shedding light on women's issues and mobilizing collective efforts to address them. Films can be a powerful medium for social change," he remarked.

During the event, women actors, artists, and directors were honored for their contributions to the industry.
