Bhairahawa (Rupandehi): Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has been remanded to the District Prison in Rupandehi in connection with a cooperative fraud case.
Lamichhane, who formerly served as Managing Director of Gorkha Media Network, was transferred to the prison following his presentation before the District Court, Rupandehi earlier today. He had been in police custody at the District Police Office, Rupandehi for the past two days.
According to Suresh Bhandari, administrator of the District Prison, Lamichhane underwent medical examinations for about an hour before being placed in Block Number 4, a separate section of the prison facility.
He was taken into custody in Kathmandu on Friday night and brought to Bhairahawa on Saturday morning, after the High Court overturned an earlier District Court ruling that had released him on a bail of Rs 10 million.
Lamichhane faces charges of misappropriating cooperative funds, a case that has drawn wide public attention and intensified scrutiny of financial misconduct involving high-profile individuals.
