Sunsari: In response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, security surveillance has been significantly increased along the Nepal-India border in Sunsari district.

Chief District Officer Dharmendra Kumar Mishra said the move is aimed at preventing any unwanted activities along the open and porous border. He informed that security measures have been tightened particularly in the border areas of Barju, Harinagar, and Koshi rural municipalities.

Following the attack, a joint team of the Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal Police, and India's Border Security Force (SSB) has stepped up patrolling and security inspections. According to Armed Police Superintendent Nirmal Kumar Thapa, strict checking is being carried out, and individuals crossing the border are now allowed passage only after thorough verification.

The terror attack in Pahalgam tragically claimed 28 lives, including that of a Nepali citizen. India has blamed Pakistan for the attack, escalating tensions between the two neighboring countries.

Given the open border between Nepal and India, Nepalese authorities have moved quickly to strengthen surveillance. The APF is on high alert and is coordinating closely with Indian security forces to ensure no cross-border security threats arise amid the rising regional tension.

Officials emphasized that while maintaining the traditional ease of movement between the two countries is important, national security remains the top priority under the current circumstances.
