Kathmandu: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has called for suggestions from Nepali health professionals, policy experts, and students based in Thailand to help improve Nepal’s health system by learning from Thailand’s healthcare model.
Minister Poudel, currently in Bangkok to attend the United Nations Ministerial Meeting on Population Policy, interacted with members of the Nepali community at a program organized by the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok. According to his personal secretariat, the minister held discussions focusing on healthcare systems, medical education, and health insurance practices in Thailand.
“We are trying to enhance public health services by optimizing our existing resources,” Minister Poudel said, “and your experience with both systems can guide us in the right direction.”
Nepali Ambassador to Thailand Dhan Prasad Oli praised the contributions of the Nepali diaspora in Thailand, highlighting their involvement in medical education, health services, policy-making, and business. He emphasized that such interactions could foster future collaboration and open new avenues in Nepal's healthcare development.
During the interaction, several Nepali medical professionals shared insights on digital healthcare solutions and expressed readiness to expand their services to Nepal. Health insurance experts also briefed Minister Poudel on Thailand’s successful practices in the field.
Minister Poudel is scheduled to represent Nepal at the UN ministerial conference, where discussions will revolve around global population and health strategies.
