Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli announced on Tuesday that the commercial production of methane gas in Dailekh will begin within the next fiscal year, following the successful completion of research and trial production phases.
Addressing the House of Representatives, PM Oli stated that scientific studies have confirmed the presence of 112 billion cubic meters of methane gas in a single well in Dailekh. He noted that the trial production will be completed by Mangsir (November/December 2025), after which full-scale commercial operations will commence.
“We had started the work of extracting methane gas from a well in Dailekh, and it has been successful,” PM Oli said. “Its trial production will be completed within Mangsir. Its commercial production will probably be completed within the next fiscal year, and it will be utilized.”
The discovery and planned production of methane gas are expected to play a significant role in Nepal’s energy sector, potentially reducing reliance on imported fuels and contributing to energy self-sufficiency.
