Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is departing for Spain today to lead the Nepali delegation at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD-4), organized by the United Nations. The high-level global event will be held in Seville from Ashad 16 to 19 (June 30 to July 3).
The visit comes at the invitation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. Leaders from around the world, including representatives of governments, financial and trade institutions, civil society, and the UN system, will participate in the conference to discuss ways to strengthen development financing, particularly for least developed and small nations.
Prime Minister Oli will address the conference, where Nepal is expected to advocate for the rights and needs of least developed, landlocked, and small island developing countries. A key focus will be on ensuring the implementation of investment commitments made by developed nations.
During the visit, Prime Minister Oli is also scheduled to hold sideline meetings with global leaders and dignitaries. He will pay a courtesy call on King Felipe VI of Spain and meet with his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sánchez to discuss bilateral cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oli will fly to Madrid via Doha at 6 PM today and return to Kathmandu at 4:45 PM on Ashad 20.
The Nepali delegation consists of 29 members—21 from Kathmandu and eight representatives from Spain and New York. The team includes First Lady Radhika Shakya, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Finance Secretary Ghanashyam Upadhyay, and other high-ranking officials.
Nepal’s Ambassador to Spain Shanil Nepal and Permanent Representative to the UN Lok Bahadur Thapa are also part of the delegation.
This visit is expected to enhance Nepal’s global presence, attract foreign investment, and promote tourism from European countries, including Spain.
