Kathmandu: The Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) has announced Nepal’s squad for the T20 World Cup to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
The squad was unveiled on Tuesday evening. Rohit Poudel has been named captain of the team, while Dipendra Singh Airi will serve as vice-captain.
The team includes Sandeep Lamichhane, Kushal Bhurtel, Asif Sheikh, Sandeep Jora, Arif Sheikh, Bashir Ahmed, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Nandan Yadav, Gulshan Kumar Jha, Lalit Rajbanshi, Sher Malla and Lokesh Ma.
Sher Malla has earned his maiden call-up to the national team, having been selected on the basis of his impressive performances in the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from February 7 to March 8. Nepal has been placed in a challenging group alongside England, West Indies, Bangladesh and Italy.
Nepal, drawn in what is being termed the “Group of Death,” is scheduled to play all its group-stage matches in India. However, following Bangladesh’s recent statement that it will not play matches in India, Nepal may have to travel to Sri Lanka for its fixture against Bangladesh.
