Kathmandu: Landless and unorganized settlers staged a protest in Kaski, voicing strong dissatisfaction with the government and political parties for failing to fulfill past promises. The demonstration was organized on Monday by the Landless and Unorganized Settlement Concerns Struggle Committee.
Protesters gathered with slogans such as “Our slogan, our vote – you forgot your promise, you have hurt us,” “Ensure the right to housing,” and “We can’t lie, you won’t get a vote next time.” The slogans reflected growing frustration among participants who accused political leaders of neglecting commitments made during elections.
The demonstrators said the protest aimed to pressure the government to address long-standing issues faced by landless and unorganized settlers. They alleged that the state has remained indifferent, particularly regarding assurances related to housing and land rights.
Participants strongly demanded the implementation of the constitutional right to housing and called for permanent settlement solutions. Many said they have been waiting for years for land ownership certificates and security of tenure.
Warning of continued agitation, the protesters made it clear that their movement will persist until their demands are met and meaningful action is taken by the authorities.
