Kathmandu: Nepal and Japan have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the third phase of the 'Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship by Japanese Grant Aid (JDS)' program.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Finance, with Finance Secretary Arjun Prasad Pokhrel representing Nepal and Japan's ambassador to Nepal, Kikuta Yutaka, representing Japan.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Government of Japan has pledged to provide Nepal with a financial grant of Rs 385 million to support the scholarship program in 2023 and 2024. The program is specifically designed to assist civil service employees in pursuing Master's and Ph.D. degrees.
Nepal has been a recipient of financial aid from Japan for human resource development since 2015. Thus far, the Japan-funded scholarship scheme has benefited 100 civil service employees in Nepal.
Overall, this partnership between Nepal and Japan aims to enhance the skills and knowledge of civil service employees through higher education, contributing to the overall development of Nepal.
