Manang: The Besisahar-Chame road, which serves as the sole connection between Lamjung district and Manang district, will be closed for a period of two days starting today. The closure is necessary for the construction of two wooden bridges over the Timang power house rivulet and Syarku rivulet.
According to the Besisahar-Chame road project office, the closure will be in effect from 10:00 am on Thursday until 5:00 pm on Friday. Suman Adhikari, an engineer at the project office, stated that the construction of two wooden bridges is underway—one in Chame Rural Municipality-1 over the Timang power house rivulet and another in ward-2 over the Syarku rivulet.
To facilitate the construction work, all vehicular movement along the road has been temporarily halted. Adhikari explained that the existing wooden bridges, which were constructed two years ago, have deteriorated over time, necessitating their replacement. The aim is to prevent any potential accidents on these bridges, which are used by heavily loaded vehicles as well.
The wooden bridge over the Timang power house rivulet will have a length of nine meters and a breadth of four and a half meters. Similarly, the wooden bridge over the Syarku rivulet will measure seven meters in length and four meters in breadth. These new bridges will ensure safer passage for vehicles and pedestrians alike.
During the closure period, alternative routes or transportation arrangements should be considered to minimize disruptions to travel plans. It is advisable for commuters and residents in the affected areas to stay updated with official announcements regarding the reopening of the road after the construction work is completed.
