Sindhupalchok: The Helambu Rural Municipality has urgently appealed to the provincial government for disaster relief support in the aftermath of severe flooding in the Melamchi River.

The floods and accompanying landslides have inflicted extensive damage, prompting the Rural Municipality Chair, Nima Galzen Sherpa, to formally request assistance from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning under the Bagmati Pradesh government.

Expressing concern over the situation, Chair Sherpa lamented the lack of immediate financial aid provided to Melamchi Municipality, Helambu, Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality, and other high-risk disaster-prone areas. These regions are grappling with the aftermath of the floods and urgently require support to cope with the devastation.

In response to the crisis, Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, conducted an on-site inspection of the flood-affected areas, including Helambu and Melamchi, in Sindhupalchok. Minister Basnet, who represents Constituency No. 2 of Sindhupalchok in the Parliament, directed the district administration office and relevant agencies to swiftly initiate relief programs for the affected communities.

Minister Basnet also informed that a coordinated effort is underway involving Bagmati Province MP Krishna Kumar Tamang, Nepali Congress Sindhupalchok District Secretary Rameshraj Bhandari, Deputy Mayor of Melamchi Ramsharan Giri, and other leaders. Their collective focus is on providing relief and facilitating the rescue of residents affected by the flood disaster.

The appeal for assistance highlights the immediate need for coordinated relief efforts to aid communities reeling from the impact of natural calamities, emphasizing the crucial role of government bodies and leaders in ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected population.
