Kathmandu: Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has revealed that the Chinese government is positive about the construction of the Tokha-Chhahare tunnel way. He made this announcement during a program organized by the Likhu Women Entrepreneurs and Social Organization ahead of the Teej festival.

Minister Mahat mentioned that the Nepali government has allocated NPR 1 billion in the current fiscal year's budget for the tunnel way's construction. Furthermore, a proposal for additional investments has been presented to the Chinese government, which has responded positively. Letters have been exchanged between the two governments, indicating a willingness to bring Chinese investment into the project.

The project's pre-feasibility study has already been conducted, and the construction process will proceed once the detailed project report (DPR) is completed. The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure will oversee the construction, the Ministry of Finance will mobilize resources, and the Ministry of Forests and Environment will handle environmental-related aspects.

Minister Mahat also discussed plans to upgrade and expand the road network in Nuwakot, extending it not only to the district headquarters in Bidur but also to the border transit point in Rasuwa. This roadway will help manage traffic on the Prithvi Highway and serve as the shortest route for international trade. Additionally, the Dhikure and Simla irrigation projects are among the government's priorities.

The Chinese government's positive response and the forthcoming visit of the Nepali Prime Minister to China indicate strong progress for the Tokha-Chhahare tunnel way project.
