Lalbandi: The foot march against loan sharking (meter byaj), which began in Janakpur on Asad 25, entered its fourth day on Sunday as participants continued their journey from Lalbandi towards Kathmandu.
Organizers said the march, led by victims of exploitative lending practices along with activists and supporters, aims to draw the government's attention to their longstanding demands. They vowed that the campaign would not stop until it reaches the federal capital.
Hundreds of protesters have joined the march carrying placards bearing slogans such as "Quietly Tear the Agreement" and "You Don't Have to Go to Kathmandu to Demand Your Rights." The participants are walking between 20 and 26 kilometers each day on their way to Kathmandu.
According to the organizers, the government has signed agreements with the victims on four separate occasions but has failed to implement its commitments. They said the march has been organized to build pressure on the government to fulfill those promises and deliver justice to victims of loan sharking.
The protesters are expected to arrive in Kathmandu in about a week, where they plan to intensify their campaign and press the government to take concrete action against exploitative lending practices.
