Colombo: The Court of Appeal in Sri Lanka has made a significant decision to reinstate the country's cricket board, overturning the Sports Minister's recent move to dissolve the board and appoint an interim committee. This decision comes as a result of a petition submitted by board president Shammi Silva, which challenged the Minister Roshan Ranasinghe's decision to dismiss the Sri Lanka Cricket board.

The Court of Appeal has ruled in favor of Silva, temporarily restoring the board's authority. This restoration will be in effect for two weeks, allowing for a comprehensive hearing on the matter. In addition to the legal proceedings, the government has formed a cabinet committee to address any pending issues concerning the board's management and operation.

The Sports Minister's actions were prompted by Sri Lanka's disappointing performance at the World Cup, along with ongoing allegations of corruption within the cricket board. To address these concerns, the interim committee, led by Arjuna Ranatunga, Sri Lanka's former World Cup-winning captain, has vowed to clean up the board's image and embark on the rebuilding of the national cricket team.

The decision to reinstate the board for the time being comes as a pivotal moment in Sri Lanka's cricket governance. Further legal proceedings will be held to determine the long-term outcome.
