Kathmandu: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called upon the government to make arrangements for the final rites of Nepali individuals who lost their lives in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The NHRC emphasized that the government should handle the repatriation of the deceased individuals and ensure proper religious, cultural, and traditional procedures for their final rites.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, Dr Tikaram Pokharel, the spokesperson for NHRC, urged the government to take diplomatic measures to bring back Nepali citizens affected by the conflict. Additionally, the NHRC called for appropriate medical treatment for those injured in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The NHRC highlighted concerns about the recruitment of hundreds of Nepalis into the military services of Russia and Ukraine, leading to casualties and injuries. It emphasized the government's responsibility to protect the human rights of Nepali citizens globally and stressed the importance of rescuing and supporting those in distress, while also preventing illegal journeys for foreign employment.
