Birgunj (Parsa): Over the course of one year, a total of 260 individuals, deemed vulnerable to human trafficking, were rescued from the Birgunj transit point along the Nepal-India border in Parsa.

The rescues, involving 257 women and girls and three male children, were carried out through the concerted efforts of Maiti Nepal.

The majority of those rescued are from districts such as Parsa, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, and Mahottari in Madhesh Province, along with Jhapa in Koshi Province. Organizations like Maiti Nepal, Ashish Social Service Nepal, Aafanta Nepal, Tiny Hand Nepal, and Nepal Police actively monitor and combat potential human trafficking through the Birgunj transit point.

Despite these efforts, locals have urged authorities to increase surveillance at the Bhishwa and Bhangaha points as well.
