Petroleum, Vehicle Imports Dominate Birgunj Customs Revenue Collection

Birgunj, Parsa: The Birgunj Customs Office has reported robust revenue performance in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, with petroleum products and vehicle imports dominating the collection figures.

According to Chief Customs Administrator Deepak Lamichhane, the customs point collected Rs 64.5 billion in revenue from petroleum product imports alone, out of a total import value of Rs 155.94 billion for five categories of petroleum products. This accounts for a staggering 46.26% of the total customs revenue, underscoring the country's heavy dependence on fuel imports for revenue generation.

The second-largest revenue source came from the import of transport vehicles and spare parts, which contributed Rs 15.24 billion, representing 10.93% of total revenue.

Other key contributors to customs revenue included:

-Iron and iron-based products: Rs 5.25 billion

-Machinery and parts: Rs 4.55 billion

-Electrical equipment and components: Rs 3.37 billion

-Textiles: Rs 2.87 billion

-Tobacco products: Rs 2.23 billion

-Cosmetics: Rs 2.22 billion

These figures highlight the strategic importance of Birgunj Customs as a gateway for high-value imports, particularly fuel and automobiles, and its role in the national revenue architecture. Lamichhane also emphasized the office's role in maintaining strict compliance and timely reporting to support national fiscal goals.
