Taplejung: With the onset of this year's spring season, the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area has begun to attract domestic and international tourists.
Tourists traditionally flock to the Kanchenjunga site during two peak seasons each year for trekking, mountaineering, and other recreational activities, given that Kanchenjunga is home to the world's third tallest peak.
During the spring season, which lasts from March to the first week of June, tourists from both domestic and international destinations arrive in large numbers to explore the area's natural beauty.
According to reports from the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council, 60 foreign tourists were welcomed at the Ghunsa area on Wednesday. Tasi Tenzing, an Assistant at the Council, mentioned that hotels along the trekking route have commenced operations in anticipation of the influx of tourists.
In the first season of this year, the area attracted 650 foreign tourists, although records for domestic tourists were not maintained. Last year, a total of 439 foreign tourists visited the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area.
Currently, 52 hotels are operational along the trekking route leading to the base camp of Kanchenjunga mountain. Tourism remains a vital source of income for the communities residing in the Kanchenjunga region.
