Beijing: China has announced that it will raise "serious concerns" regarding Taiwan and other security issues in forthcoming talks with the United States. The discussions are set to take place during US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan's visit to Beijing from August 27 to 29.

According to state broadcaster CCTV, a senior Chinese foreign ministry official emphasized that China will clearly express its firm stance on Taiwan, development rights, and strategic security during the talks. The Taiwan issue is particularly significant, with Beijing describing it as the "first insurmountable red line" in US-China relations. China has reiterated its demand for the US to adhere to the one-China principle and refrain from supporting Taiwan independence.

Sullivan's visit marks the first time a US National Security Advisor has traveled to China since 2016. However, other senior US officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, have made visits in recent years as both nations attempt to manage their complex relationship. The talks follow a period of heightened tensions, notably after former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's 2022 visit to Taiwan, which prompted China's largest-ever military exercises around the island.

The upcoming discussions aim to address these critical issues and seek ways to navigate the ongoing tensions between the two global powers.
