Foreign Minister Khanal Returns After China Visit, Holds High-Level Talks on Cooperation and Investment
Nepal and China Reaffirm Commitment to Strong Bilateral Relations

Kathmandu: Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal returned to Nepal on Wednesday after completing a four-day official visit to the People's Republic of China at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister and Politburo member Wang Yi.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Khanal held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Wang in Beijing on Monday. Delegations from both countries discussed a wide range of issues related to Nepal-China relations and explored opportunities for expanding cooperation in various sectors.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties based on friendship, mutual trust, and cooperation. Nepal reiterated its commitment not to allow its territory to be used against China's interests, while China reaffirmed its support for Nepal's sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence, and development priorities.
Focus on Connectivity, Trade, Technology and Development
The two countries held extensive discussions on expanding cooperation in infrastructure development, connectivity, border management, energy, trade, investment, agriculture, technology transfer, information technology, digitalization, tourism, fertilizer supply, petroleum and natural gas exploration, and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides also emphasized the importance of implementing previously agreed bilateral projects and enhancing cooperation in regional and multilateral forums.
Following the talks, Minister Khanal attended a dinner hosted by Foreign Minister Wang.
Meetings With Senior Chinese Leaders
During the visit, Minister Khanal met Liu Haixing, Head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, to discuss strengthening Nepal-China relations and expanding cooperation between political parties.
He also met Wang Huning, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, on Tuesday. Discussions focused on deepening friendly relations and advancing cooperation in priority sectors.
Investment Promotion Takes Center Stage
Minister Khanal participated in an investment conference organized by the Nepali Embassy in Beijing to encourage greater Chinese investment in Nepal.
The event brought together Chinese investors, entrepreneurs, and business leaders. Representatives from the Investment Board Nepal presented investment opportunities and held discussions with participants.
Addressing the conference, Minister Khanal highlighted Nepal's economic and demographic potential and urged Chinese businesses to invest in the country. He assured investors that the government remains committed to creating a business-friendly and investment-friendly environment.
Engagement With Nepali Community in China
The Foreign Minister also interacted with members of the Nepali community living in China during a reception hosted by the Nepali Embassy in Beijing.
He briefed participants on the government's priorities, including good governance, economic development, and national prosperity, and encouraged them to contribute to Nepal's development efforts.
During his visit to the embassy, Minister Khanal reviewed its activities and instructed officials to strengthen Nepal-China relations, promote economic diplomacy, and improve services for Nepali citizens residing in China.
Cultural and Scientific Visits
Minister Khanal visited the historic White Stupa at Beijing's Miaoying Temple, a landmark designed by renowned Nepali architect Araniko.
The ministry described the monument as a symbol of the long-standing cultural ties between Nepal and China and a testament to Nepal's historical influence abroad.
He also toured the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he learned about ongoing research collaboration with Nepali institutions, including Tribhuvan University. During discussions with senior officials, he stressed the importance of expanding scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.
In addition, the Foreign Minister visited one of China's leading technology institutes in Beijing as part of efforts to explore future collaboration in innovation and research.
