Kathmandu: Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has stated that Nepal faces border-related issues with China in certain limited areas, clarifying that border concerns are not confined only to Nepal's southern frontier.
Responding to questions raised by lawmakers during the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, Minister Khanal said that although the Nepal-China border remains largely stable, some disputed areas still require attention and resolution.
'Disputes Exist in Limited Areas'
Addressing Parliament, the Foreign Minister said that there are border-related concerns in some locations along the northern frontier.
“There are border disputes in some limited areas along the Chinese border. It is not correct to say that no disputes exist at all. Activity along the northern border is currently lower, but certain issues remain,” Minister Khanal told the House.
His remarks came while responding to lawmakers' queries regarding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and border management policies.
Budget Allocated for Border Management Work
Minister Khanal informed Parliament that the government has allocated budgetary resources to address border-related issues and carry out necessary work in disputed areas.
He said that if additional resources are required, the ministry will seek special approval from the Ministry of Finance to undertake further activities related to border management and verification.
According to the Foreign Minister, the government remains committed to addressing outstanding border concerns through appropriate diplomatic and administrative mechanisms while maintaining Nepal's friendly relations with neighboring countries.
Focus on Monitoring and Resolution
The minister emphasized the need for continued monitoring of border areas and stated that the government would move forward with necessary studies, field inspections, and technical work in locations where issues have been identified.
He reiterated that safeguarding Nepal's territorial integrity and resolving border-related concerns remain important priorities of the government.
