Kathmandu: Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba informed Parliament on Monday that 885 Nepali citizens working in Israel have registered to return home amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. Addressing the House of Representatives, Minister Rana emphasized that ensuring the safety of Nepalis abroad remains a top priority of the government.
Minister Rana said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been closely monitoring the situation since the onset of the conflict, taking proactive steps to inform and protect Nepali citizens in the affected regions. “We issued our first press release on June 13 and followed it with a press advisory on June 15, requesting Nepali nationals in Israel and Iran to adopt special security precautions,” she said.
To coordinate rescue efforts, the government launched an online portal on June 17, through which 885 Nepalis have already registered to return. She added that the ministry is also preparing to launch a mobile application named ‘Shram Sansar’, which will be linked with the Nagarik App, to systematically collect and manage data on Nepalis living and working abroad.
In addition, Minister Rana announced that a task force has been formed to begin the legalization process for undocumented Nepali workers abroad. She reiterated the government’s ongoing efforts to secure the release of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali student who went missing during the Israel-Gaza conflict.
Highlighting recent successes, Minister Rana stated that 57 Nepalis held captive in India under various circumstances have been rescued and repatriated so far.
She concluded by reaffirming the government’s full commitment to ensuring the safety, rights, and dignified return of all Nepalis affected by international conflicts.
