Kathmandu: India has confirmed receiving an invitation from Pakistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting, scheduled to be held in Islamabad this October.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, during a weekly media briefing on Friday, acknowledged the invitation but stated that there is no further update on India's participation at this time. "Yes, we have received an invitation from Pakistan for the Council of Heads of Government meeting (SCO meeting). We don't have an update on that. We will let you know what the situation is later," Jaiswal remarked.

Pakistan, currently holding the rotating chairmanship of the SCO CHG, is set to host the meeting on October 15-16. The Pakistan Foreign Office had earlier confirmed extending invitations to all SCO member states, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to reports, Pakistan has already received some confirmations for the event.

The SCO, established on June 15, 2001, in Shanghai, currently includes nine member states: India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Iran. The organization also has three Observer States and 14 Dialogue Partners, including countries such as Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Belarus.
