TikTok Removes 6,078 Videos Violating Guidelines in Nepal

Kathmandu: TikTok has taken down 6,078 videos from its platform in Nepal within two months for violating community guidelines, according to a report presented at the Digital Safety Summit Nepal. The summit was held in Kathmandu on Tuesday in coordination with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

A TikTok representative disclosed that 99.1% of the flagged videos, posted between April and June, were removed instantly, while 93.2% were deleted within 24 hours.

Sidra Jalil, a TikTok representative, presented the platform’s regulatory guidelines during the event, emphasizing the categorization of age groups to maintain a safe and systematic environment on TikTok. As per these guidelines, users must be at least 16 years old to send direct messages and 18 years old to host live sessions.

TikTok's Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia, Fordous Mottakin, reiterated the platform's commitment to working with the Government of Nepal to promote digital literacy and ensure online safety. He highlighted efforts to create a secure online environment, particularly for children and young users, through precautionary measures and safety guidelines.

The summit highlighted the importance of awareness and adherence to social media guidelines for maintaining a respectful and secure digital space.
