Kathmandu: Rabi Lamichhane, the Member of the House of Representatives (HoR) elected from Chitwan-2, has been automatically suspended from his post, according to a notice issued by the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
The Secretariat’s General-Secretary, Padma Prasad Pandey, stated on Monday that Lamichhane’s suspension is in accordance with Section 27 of the Money-Laundering Prevention Act, 2064. The move follows a money-laundering case filed against Lamichhane at the Kaski District Court.
The District Police Office, Kaski, had informed the Speaker of the Federal Parliament about the case and sent a formal request to the Secretariat to suspend Lamichhane from his position as an HoR member.
In the wake of Lamichhane’s suspension, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has appointed its Deputy Chairperson, Dol Prasad Aryal, as Acting Chairperson of the party. The decision was made during a meeting of the party's Secretariat.
This development marks a significant turn for the RSP and its leadership, as Lamichhane’s suspension raises questions about the party’s immediate plans and future direction.
