Beijing: China has strongly opposed new tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, vowing to take corresponding countermeasures to safeguard its economic interests. The announcement comes after Trump unveiled an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports, escalating trade tensions between the two global powers.
In a statement on Sunday, China's commerce ministry condemned Washington’s move as "erroneous practices," expressing strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition. It also declared that Beijing would file a lawsuit at the World Trade Organization (WTO), arguing that the unilateral imposition of tariffs violates international trade rules.
The ministry criticized the new tariffs, stating that they do not help solve US economic issues but rather harm normal trade relations. It urged Washington to address domestic issues like fentanyl without using tariffs as a coercive tool.
China further called on the US to correct its approach, engage in frank dialogues, and strengthen cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and benefit.
In a separate statement, China's foreign ministry reiterated that "there are no winners in a trade war" and warned that the additional tariffs would harm future bilateral cooperation on drug control. The Chinese government has signaled its intent to take decisive actions in response, deepening uncertainty in global trade relations.
