Annual Inflation Hits 3.75% in First Eight Months of Fiscal Year: NRB

Kathmandu: Nepal's year-on-year inflation stood at 3.75 percent during the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2081/82, according to the latest macroeconomic and financial report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Wednesday.

The central bank stated that inflation remained within a manageable range during the period. The inflation rate for food and beverages was recorded at 3.34 percent, while non-food and services inflation was slightly higher at 3.97 percent.

Under the food and beverage category, the consumer price index saw notable increases in ghee and oil (13.74%), pulses and legumes (7.80%), fruits (6.82%), and non-alcoholic beverages (5.15%). Conversely, the prices of spices dropped by 5.17%, vegetables by 1.24%, and fish and meat by 0.74%.

The year-on-year consumer price index increased by 4.18 percent in rural areas and by 3.60 percent in urban areas, showing a slightly higher inflationary impact in the countryside.

Among the provinces, Koshi recorded the highest inflation at 5.68 percent, while Gandaki reported the lowest at 2.77 percent.
