Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized that the upcoming appointment to the vacant post of Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank will be made strictly on the basis of merit, not personal affiliation.

Speaking at the formal inauguration of the Former Planners Forum Nepal, Prime Minister Oli stated, “I do not want to appoint anyone to Rastra Bank based on personal proximity. I want capable individuals appointed through meritocracy. If someone can deliver, the country will succeed. I don’t need to say ‘my person’.”

He further clarified that the recent appointments to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission on Enforced Disappearances were also made based on the recommendations of the relevant committees, with a focus on competence.

The Prime Minister added that he has no personal ties with any of the newly appointed officials, apart from one individual he knew during their tenure as Chief Secretary.

PM Oli also expressed hope that the Former Planners Forum would contribute positively through the exchange of ideas and experiences, and wished for the forum’s continued growth without internal disputes.
