Kathmandu: The Kathmandu District Court has remanded seven individuals, including controversial figure Durga Prasad Prasai, in custody on charges of criminal harassment related to the violent Tinkune protest on Chaitra 15 (March 28). The decision was issued by a bench led by Judge Dhruvaraj Karki.
Those sent to custody include Prasai, also known as 'Janakmandar', along with Saroj Gautam ('Tara Rajawadi'), Gokarna Shahi ('Anup Rajawadi'), Dandapani Regmi, Keshav Basnet, Kumar Tamang, and Sushil Baral.
In the same case, the court ordered the release of 32 individuals on bail, with amounts ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 100,000. However, 11 of those released, including Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra and RPP General Secretary and Member of Parliament Dhaval Shamsher Rana, are reportedly out of contact. The court has listed them as absconding for failing to appear.
The protest turned deadly, leading to the deaths of journalist Suresh Rajak of Abhinews Television and 29-year-old Sabin Maharjan of Kirtipur-4. Twenty more were reportedly injured. While the police had opened fire, the court noted that none of the protestors were injured by bullets.
