Kathmandu: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of journalist Dilbhushan Pathak on a bail of Rs 25,000 in connection with a case filed under the Electronic Transactions Act.
Pathak appeared in court on Thursday, where his statement and arguments were heard before Judge Khemraj Bhatta. Following the session, the court issued the release order against bail.
The District Government Attorney’s Office had filed the case last Monday based on an investigation report from the Cyber Bureau.
The complaint was lodged by Jayabir Deuba, son of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who alleged that Pathak had defamed him through electronic media content.
Pathak’s legal team has denied the allegations, asserting his right to free press and fair reporting. The case has sparked debate in media and political circles over the use of cyber laws in matters involving public figures.
