India Celebrates 79th Independence Day at Embassy in Kathmandu

Flag hoisting, cultural performances, and educational initiatives mark the occasion

Kathmandu: The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated with various programs at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu on Friday. The ceremony began with the hoisting of the Indian national flag by Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava.

The event featured the Independence Day address by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, delivered on the eve of the celebration.

On the occasion, Ambassador Srivastava honored the wives and next of kin of deceased personnel of the Indian Armed Forces, handing over an AGIF (Army Group Insurance Fund) check worth Rs. 64 million.

The Embassy also announced a book donation initiative for 39 educational institutions and libraries across seven provinces and 21 districts of Nepal, aiming to improve access to learning resources in remote areas.

The celebration was attended by members of the Indian community in Nepal, embassy officials, and their families. Students from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kathmandu, added a patriotic touch with cultural performances and patriotic songs.
