Kathmandu: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a 100 percent tariff on Chinese goods, escalating the ongoing trade tensions between Washington and Beijing. Chinese products are already subject to a 30 percent tariff, bringing the total tariff rate to 130 percent once the new measures take effect.

Trump said the new tariffs will be implemented from November 1, alongside plans to impose controls on all major software exports starting the same day.

Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “This will create difficulties for almost every country in the world.”

The announcement follows China’s decision on October 9 to tighten export restrictions on rare earth materials—key components in advanced technologies and defense industries. Under the new Chinese regulations, foreign companies using Chinese minerals or technology must obtain a license, and no licenses will be granted to companies linked to foreign militaries.

Trump’s move is seen as a direct response to Beijing’s export curbs, marking another escalation in the economic standoff between the world’s two largest economies.
