Kathmandu: The government has appointed Additional Inspector General (AIG) Dan Bahadur Karki as the new Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP).

A cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to promote Karki to the top police post, according to Minister for Communications, Information and Technology Jagadish Kharel, who also serves as the government spokesperson.

Minister Kharel informed that Karki’s appointment takes effect from Kartik 27. The position became vacant as current IGP Chandrakuber Khapung is set to retire from midnight today (Mangsir 25) upon completing the 30-year service period mandated by police regulations.

33rd Chief of Nepal Police

With his promotion, Karki becomes the 33rd IGP of Nepal Police. Before this, he served as the Chief of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari.

On 23 Bhadra, the Valley Command had remained without an AIG for some time. Prior to taking charge of the Valley Police, Karki was the Chief of the Human Resources Department at Police Headquarters.

Career Highlights

During his tenure as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Karki led the Lumbini Province Police Command. Earlier, as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), he commanded the Kathmandu District Police Complex, where the Bhutanese refugee scam investigation began.

Known for his discipline, integrity, and professionalism, Karki has handled several challenging responsibilities in both the capital and the provinces.

He has also served as the Central Spokesperson of the Nepal Police and has undergone various international training programs. Officers and observers describe him as an honest and capable police leader with extensive field-to-headquarters experience.
