Sunsari: Minister for Health and Population, Dr Sudha Gautam, has pledged to resolve longstanding issues in public procurement within Nepal’s health sector.
During an inspection visit to the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) on Tuesday, Minister Gautam said reforms would be advanced through intensified onsite monitoring of health institutions and hospitals, improved medicine supply, strengthened health services, and a thorough review of health insurance schemes. She assured that feedback and recommendations from stakeholders would be duly considered and implemented based on necessity.
“Reforms are essential across all areas—mental health, employee-focused programmes, medicine procurement, medical laboratories, and the public procurement process,” the Minister emphasized, noting that hospitals still have gaps in serving patients effectively. She reiterated her commitment to improving the situation.
Addressing doctors and hospital staff, Dr Gautam noted that the current government, formed in the wake of the Gen Z protest, is committed to building a corruption-free and transparent system. She underscored that strengthening health services is a key priority in that pursuit.
The Minister also urged medical professionals and hospital employees to provide hassle-free services to patients and requested detailed updates on preparations for the upcoming BPKIHS senate meeting.
