Kathmandu: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has directed banks and financial institutions to make necessary arrangements for opening bank accounts related to election purposes.

Directive Issued at Election Commission’s Request
Acting on a request from the Election Commission, the central bank issued a letter instructing banks to facilitate the opening of such accounts. According to the directive, bank accounts can be opened upon the recommendation of the Provincial Election Office or District Election Office under the commission.

Accounts to Operate Until Official Closure
NRB has clarified that these accounts will remain operational until the Election Commission formally orders their closure. The arrangement is intended to ensure transparent financial transactions during the election period.

Income and Expenditure to Be Managed in Nepali Currency
The accounts are to be used for managing income and expenditure related to general election campaign activities, with all transactions to be conducted in Nepali currency.

Separate Accounts for Parties and Candidates
Through a public notice, NRB has requested banks to open separate accounts for each political party, as well as for proportional and direct candidates and independent candidates representing those parties, in line with election finance regulations.
