Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa, Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma, General Secretary Pradeep Poudel, Dr. Chandrakant Bhandari, and other party leaders participated in a 5-kilometre Climate Awareness Run in Lalitpur on Wednesday to mark B.P. Koirala Memorial Day and promote awareness about climate change.

The event, titled "Climate Awareness Run," highlighted the need for environmental conservation and collective action against climate change.

Thapa Completes Five-Kilometre Run
After successfully completing the five-kilometre run without stopping, Thapa shared a light-hearted anecdote that soon turned into a political jab at the government.

Referring to a recent remark by Prime Minister Balendra Sah, who had said during the National Independent Party's general convention that "the government's vehicle has no brakes and will stop only after reaching its destination," Thapa drew a humorous comparison between the government and the opposition.

No Brakes' for Government and Opposition
Thapa said his fellow runners joked with him after the race, saying:

"Those whose vehicle has no brakes are running the government, and those who run without brakes are leading the opposition." Responding with a smile, Thapa said:"This time, it seems that's true."

Using the joke as political satire, he remarked that there are similarities in the working styles of both the government and the opposition, suggesting that both are moving forward relentlessly in pursuit of their respective goals.

Climate Awareness Meets Political Messaging

Although the event focused primarily on raising awareness about climate change and environmental responsibility, Thapa's remarks added a political dimension to the program by referencing the Prime Minister's earlier comments.

The Climate Awareness Run brought together senior Congress leaders and supporters, combining environmental advocacy with public participation as part of the party's observance of B.P. Koirala Memorial Week.
