Nepal's World Cup Hopes Dashed After Defeat to Netherlands

Kathmandu: Nepal's hopes of reaching the Super Six stage in the ongoing ICC One Day World Cup Qualifier were dashed after suffering a seven-wicket loss to the Netherlands at the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare, Zimbabwe.

This defeat resulted in Nepal's elimination from the group stage, while the Netherlands secured their spot in the Super Six. Among the five teams in Group 'A,' the Netherlands, hosts Zimbabwe, and West Indies have successfully advanced, while the USA has also been eliminated.

During the match, Max O'Dowd of the Netherlands played a crucial role, scoring an impressive 90 runs off 75 balls, including eight fours and six sixes.

Bas de Leede contributed 41 runs, and Vikramjit Singh added 30 runs to the team's total. Nepal's Sandeep Lamichhane claimed two wickets, while Gulsan Jha took one wicket.

Having lost the toss and being asked to bat first, Nepal managed to score 167 runs in 44.3 overs, losing all their wickets. Captain Rohit Paudel top-scored for Nepal with 33 runs off 55 balls, including three boundaries and one six. 

Kushal Bhurtel scored 27 runs off 42 balls. Other notable contributors were Bhim Sarki (22 runs off 56), Gulsan Jha (15 runs), Dipendra Singh Airee (14 runs), and Kushal Malla (12 runs). The Netherlands' Logan van Beek took four wickets, while Bas de Leede and Vikramjit Singh claimed two wickets each. Clayton Floyd and Aryan Dutt picked up one wicket each.

In their previous matches, Nepal suffered an eight-wicket loss to hosts Zimbabwe in their opening match, followed by a six-wicket victory over the USA in their second match. They faced a 101-run defeat against West Indies in their third match. Similarly, the Netherlands experienced a six-wicket loss to Zimbabwe but secured a five-wicket win against the USA. The Netherlands will face West Indies in their upcoming match on Monday.
