London: On Monday, a meeting was held between Nepal's Minister of Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, and the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Health, Will Queens, at the Ministry of Health. The meeting emphasized the UK's continued support to Nepal's health sector.
During the discussion, Health Minister Basnet expressed his appreciation for the British government's assistance in Nepal's socio-economic development, particularly in the healthcare domain. He expressed confidence that this support would further increase in the future. Notably, Minister Basnet welcomed the recent agreement allowing Nepali nurses to work in Britain and requested support for the capacity building of Nepali health institutions.
In response, British Secretary of State Queens reaffirmed the UK's commitment to supporting Nepal's health sector, assuring that the collaboration would persist. He highlighted how the arrival of Nepali nurses in the UK would be mutually beneficial for both nations.
During his visit to the UK, Health Minister Basnet also took the opportunity to tour the training center, emergency department, and wards of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester on Sunday. This visit provided valuable insights into the training and transfer process of nurses from Nepal to the UK. The Nepali Ambassador to the UK, Gyan Chandra Acharya, also participated in the meeting and accompanying visits.
Minister Basnet's visit to the United Kingdom commenced on July 14, reflecting the ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and foster cooperation between Nepal and the UK in the critical area of healthcare. Both nations are enthusiastic about further enhancing this partnership to advance the health and well-being of their citizens.
